Bennett AerospaceInc. has an *immediate* opening for a highly motivated Polymer Systems Modeler in support of the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) at the Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Maryland.  


Job Description:


The successful scientist/engineer candidate will specialize in polymer modeling and developing advanced computational capabilities within high performance programs, such as Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS).  Support requirements are twofold:


(a) the performance of multi-scale simulations of macromolecular systems;


(b) the design and program of new computational algorithms in the LAMMPS code.

As determined by Government requirements, activities that the successful candidate shall complete include but are not limited to:


  • Modeling of mechanical, viscoelastic and thermal properties of polymer networks (to include semi-crystalline polymers) at rubbery and glassy states, double networks, gels and biomolecules.
  • Utilizing various visualization packages such as Materials Studio and VMD (desired)
  • Developing new theoretical and computational me
  • Prepare presentations and written documents summarizing efforts in Government format for Form 1 approval (process of instruction provided by COR as GFI). Upon TO COR request, Contractor personnel shall present the information to the ARL staff, universities, private corporations, research institutes, national laboratories, or other Government research centers.


Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of a Ph.D. in Chemical, Biological or Engineering degree and five years of experience as a Scientist/Engineer
  • Extensive knowledge of modern computer languages with programming and optimization of new algorithms in LAMMPS
  • Experience implementing multi-scale models on parallel computers
  • Experience modeling polymer networks, gels, biomolecules and glassy polymers using methods such as atomistic and coarse-grain techniques such as dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) and bead-spring models
  • Experience with versatile programs to perform molecular dynamics simulation, such as LAMMPS and Nanoscale Molecular Dynamics (NAMD) program
  • Knowledge of semi-crystalline polymers
  • Experience in writing proposals, reports, technical program summaries, PowerPoint presentations, and journal publications to include at least fifteen (15) published papers in peer-review journals and ten (10) oral presentations at major scientific and technical conferences
