Job Description:

 

Bennett Aerospace, Inc. is seeking an experienced Software Engineer with Structures and Modelling Specialty who has a significant desire to develop software, learn programming best practices, and help strengthen our national security to join one of our development teams in Raleigh, NC.  You will support the growth of the business in the areas of GIS, physics-based simulation, and geometric modelling. The work focuses on modelling a diverse range of phenomena including weapons effects, blast modelling, structural modelling, structural response to blast loads, structural collapse, and equipment response.

Responsibilities

  • Your day-to-day work will consist of software development, software testing, and engineering verification & validation.
  • Building characterization is a core component of our architecture, so you will be relied upon to provide insight into how buildings are constructed using modern design practices.
  • We expect you to be familiar with building design codes (e.g., ASCE 7-16) and have the skills to apply these standards to develop and implement algorithms in software that automatically design building components.
  • In addition to characterization, you will develop algorithms that simulate the response of these structures to extreme loads like blast and fragmentation.
  • You will be part of a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team-based environment to develop simulation models and provide customer support.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages like C++ or Python
  • Desire to work in a dynamic software development team environment (e.g., Agile, Scrum, XP practices)

Other Desirable Skills:

  • Expertise in DoD modelling and simulation technology, structural dynamics, blast effects, structural collapse, and/or probabilistic analysis
  • Familiarity or experience working with commercial and national laboratory CFD and/or FEA codes
  • Familiarity with software design patterns and modern C++

Education and Experience:

  • An MS or PhD in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • Ability to direct and participate within multi-disciplinary development teams;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; and
  • US Citizenship (Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information)
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret Security Clearance (i.e., United States citizen).
