    Bennett Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, Master’s or PhD-level or Attorney (JD) Technology Transfer Specialist. The successful candidate will directly support the US Navy Medical R&D community in transitioning DoD medical technology in Silver Spring, Maryland (Washington, DC metropolitan area).  The successful candidate will serve as a biomedical Technology Transfer/Business Development expert responsible for the complete end-to-end process of licensing DoD medical intellectual property. 


    Job Description:


    The Technology Transfer Specialist will assist in the development and implementation of policy, strategy, plans, and guidelines to support this endeavor. Successful execution will require independent performance with minimal supervision and a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Federal Government medical space, the value chain of a commercial market space medical technology, CRADA development and negotiation, and business model valuation for new technology for international markets.  Understanding of the Federal Medical R&D environment is essential.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:


    Core duties and responsibilities include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

    • Establish and lead technology assessments to evaluate the commercial potential and significant marketing activities related to DoD medical/biomedical technologies.
    • Increase public-private partnering and find commercial technology solutions to enhance research translation that ultimately transfers these technologies into military and/or private sector application(s).
    • Establish, develop, and execute Patent License Agreements (PLAs). Negotiate terms, resolve issues, and provide guidance on technology transfer laws, policies, rules and regulations to both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Review and assess intellectual property within the employer portfolio for value, competitive advantages/weaknesses, and business opportunities.  With this information, the individual will be responsible for engaging licensees through appropriate marketing activities and negotiating license agreements.
    • Conduct scientific outreach to maintain a deep pipeline of inventions with a strong focus on inventions that are licensable.
    • Prepare, staff, and track execution of intellectual property transfer between DoD and public/private partners. Monitor licenses for compliance with terms of agreement.
    • Initiate and oversee CRADAs between DoD activities and universities/industry partners as well as advise on the drafting and negotiation of these agreements, and execute these agreements.
    • Collaborate with the supervisor on the coordination, strategic planning, organizing and implementation of DoD's technology transfer/business development strategy and vision.


    Job Requirements


    Education and Experience:

    • MS + 5 years of Tech Transfer experience OR
    • JD + MS + 1 year Tech Transfer experience or Tech Transfer training (i.e. class or certificate) OR
    • PhD  + 1 year Tech Transfer experience or Tech Transfer training (i.e. class or certificate)

    Security Restrictions:

    • Must be a US Citizen due to US Government security requirements

    Abilities and Skills:

    • Must have at least one year of past experience with Technology Transfer (T2) (more depending on education level).
    • Must have experience with T2 development and/or negotiation.
    • Must have knowledge of the Federal T2 Statutes and Medical R&D space.
    • Must be able to meet deadlines on projects;
    • Must have good English communication and analytical skills;
    • Must be able to work independently, be results-oriented, and be well-organized;
    • Strong knowledge of R&D partnering and transition processes and agreements; and
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of the DoD medical enterprise as well as the programs and strategic goals of its member laboratories.
