Job Description:

 

Bennett Aerospace, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Engineer to support the Army Research Laboratory in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. The ideal candidate for this role will be a scientist/engineer specializing in the design and testing of electromechanical systems for Army vehicle protection concepts. This position will apply electrical engineering expertise to Army requirements for soft-kill countermeasure technology, including but not limited to directed energy concepts, laser dazzle and sensor damage, signature exploitation, and signature obscuration. Support tasks are complex and require the application of advanced physical and mathematical principles. Responsibilities will include design, fabrication, test, and analysis of prototype systems for threat detection, threat tracking, and countermeasure direction.

 

The ideal candidate must demonstrate a high-level ability to analyze design trade space, formulate a plan for reducing technical risk, and conduct research to answer specific objectives.

 

Responsibilities

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Support requirements are below:

    • Conduct indoor experiments and outdoor experimental facility testing in cooperation with experimental facility personnel and within standard operating
    • Design, build, test, and assess countermeasure apparatus/concepts.
    • Prepare and/or present presentations and written documents summarizing research efforts. Upon request, Contractor shall present the information to Army Research Laboratory staff, universities, private corporations, research institutes, national laboratories, or other Government research centers.

 

Qualifications

Education and Expereience: 

  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in electrical engineering, optical engineering, or physics OR Master of Science (MS) degree with 10 years of experience.
  • A strong publication record of documenting results in conference presentations and peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to obtain SECRET Security clearance.
  • Expertise in embedded programming:
    • Microcontrollers (e.g., Microchip PIC, Arduino)
    • Field-programmable gate array (FPGA) platforms, including expertise with hardware description languages (Verilog/VHDL)
  • Expertise in programming languages/development tools:
    • C++
    • MS Visual Studio
    • Qt
    • Matlab/Simulink
  • Expertise in computer-aided design/engineering/prototyping
    • SolidWorks
    • 3D printing
  • Experience with computer-aided machining preferred but not required
  • Expertise in engineering control methods (e.g., PID controllers)
  • Laser experience preferred but not required:
    • High energy continuous wave (CW) laser systems
    • Ultrashort pulsed laser (USPL) systems
    • Spectroscopy experimentation and data analysis
    • Image processing analysis
    • Numerical simulations of optics and electromagnetics

 

Skills and Abilities:

 

  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Strong analytical and planning abilities.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, such as Word, Excel, and Power-Point
  • Ability to compile, review, categorize, prioritize, analyze and interpret data and/or information
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision

 

Security Requirements:

Security Clearance Level Required: Secret

 

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a Government background investigation and must meet eligibility and suitability requirements. 
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. 
  • Successful Pass of Bennett Aerospace Background Investigation, Drug Screening and Credit Check.
